This is the review that was written on the WGI website regarding our Championship Finals Performance . . .
Trumbull High School “Heart” The gothic-influenced poetry of Edgar Allen Poe received the Indoor Percussion treatment with Trumbull’s program, “Heart” – a sinister production where a crazed narrator recounts the story of “The Tell-Tale Heart.” The ensemble posed as white and black faced figures – clearly lacking any visible signs of vitality – and their musical and visual demands were considerable. The narrative was an effective device in establishing the brooding atmosphere of Trumbull’s eerie production – the dark, poetic prose of Edgar Allen Poe adding a deep aesthetic to the program. The taut musical segments, characterized by dramatic tempo shifts and dissonant musical figures, were handled with an unbelievable amount of control. In the show’s waning moments, a nearly inaudible whisper repeated, “Heart,” with an unsettling edge that is bound to send chills down your spine. |
