While Trumbull Percussion has performed with the marching band for over 25 years, the Trumbull Winter Percussion Ensemble was re-established the winter of 2003. The Ensemble began to compete locally in “Festival Class” (performing music while standing still). The Show was called "A Bolling Suite". In 2004, the Ensemble moved to Marching “A” Class (performing music while marching). The Ensemble’s show based on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” earned first place at the Musical Arts Conference (MAC) Championships. The 2005 Ensemble, performed “One” (music by the Dream Theater), and was promoted to Scholastic Open Class. It placed first at the MAC Championships and was undefeated in the New England Scholastic Band Association (NESBA) and Winter Guard International (WGI) regional competitions. In 2006 the Ensemble performed a show based on the musical “Jekyl and Hyde.” Again they took first place in the MAC Championships. Exceptionally, in their first appearance in worldwide competition, the Ensemble placed 8th in the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio against 41 of the finest high school percussion ensembles. Now competing on a world stage, 2007 found the ensemble performing an original show titled “Contrasts.” Undefeated in a season of MAC competitions, they once again took first place in the MAC Championships. In their second appearance on the world wide stage they placed eleventh. In 2008, after six short seasons, the Ensemble nearly reached its penultimate. With an original show titled “The Science of Music,” the ensemble had an undefeated season and took home its fifth first place in MAC Championships. And then in their third appearance at the WGI World Championships, the ensemble placed second and took home a silver medal in scholastic open class. In 2009, the Ensemble brought the original show "Fear" to the MAC and WGI. The MAC State Championships once again saw the Ensemble in first place (the sixth year in a row) and in their fourth appearance at the WGI World Championships, another second place and silver medal in scholastic open class. The 2010 season brought a different look to the Ensemble, as they explored World Music and presented their show,
"Triad". This show was based on the Hindu Triad, a God made up of three distinct dieties; Brahma, the Creator, Vishnu, the Perserver, and Shiva, the Destroyer. This effort led to their 7th MAC Championship title, being a WGI New England Regional Gold Medalist, and a 5th consecutive placement in the WGI World Championship Open Finals Round, taking 5th place in the top 12 units.
The 2011 presentation is entitled "Heart", and creates a musical setting of Edgar Allen Poe's "Tell Tale Heart". With limited vocal selections from the text, the ensemble interacts with the important symbolism of the story, stressing the "eye", the "heart beat", and the growing paranoia of the narrator. The Ensemble will participate in the Trumbull CT. and Norristown, PA. Regional events, and World Championships in Dayton for the 6th consecutive season.
