What is Winter Percussion?
It’s the thunder of drums, melodic lines of the keyboards, incredible movement and design, costumes and sets. It has become one of the most popular drumming activities in the world today! Along with Winter Guard, it is known as the “Sport of the Arts.”

This was the write-up on the WGI website following our WGI Regional Weekend, where we ended up earning first place and the New England Regional Championship.

While the infamous blizzard of 2013 dropped two feet of snow on New England and cancelled the Trumbull Guard Regional three weeks ago, the weather peacefully cooperated this time around for the Trumbull Percussion Regional this past Saturday. A total of 22 ensembles from eight states traveled to Trumbull High School for what would prove to be a very competitive show, featuring eight finalist groups from the 2012 WGI World Championships. At the end of the day and no matter the scores, it was great to see each ensemble have the opportunity to perform twice, as there were plenty of programs that were extremely enjoyable to watch. A huge thanks goes out to the Trumbull High School Band Boosters and Parents for hosting this regional for the fifth consecutive year.

    Scholastic Open
Trumbull HS (CT) (1st- 85.4) Trumbull enters the 2013 season having been a Scholastic Open finalist at seven consecutive WGI World Championships and looking to add to their history of excellence. They certainly did not disappoint the home crowd with their performance of their 2013 production “The Traveler.” The show begins with a train whistle and the line “You’re waiting for a train” as the battery, carrying suitcases, appears from behind a set of panels and down a pair of train tracks on their screen printed floor. As the program progresses, the theme of an early 20th century business traveler is revisited, as the ensemble is dressed in sepia-colored business suits. Trumbull consistently displays a high level of performance and certainly seems destined for yet another finals appearance at World Championships this April.
